Dr. Michel Billiard is the Head of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital in Montpellier since 1990 and Professor of Neurology since 1995.

Dr. Billiard is member of various Scientific Societies.

He has been President of the European Sleep Research Society (1996-2000) as well as Chairperson of the panel on sleep disorders of the European Federation of Neurological Societies (2001-2006).

He has collaborated at many foreign institutions like at the Sleep Laboratory in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Scotland (February 1973), at the Sleep Disorders Clinic of the Stanford University in USA (September 1973- November 1974) and at the Department of Neurology of the University of Michigan in USA (July – September 1990).

He is author and coauthor of numerous scientific articles and books in the field of sleep studies.
